We have a new website so if you have managed to come across our old site here, and were actually looking for our new site, please click here.
Welcome to the Canterbury Chess Club website. This site is designed for members of the club, but other players and administrators may also find it useful.
Canterbury Chess Club is now open for 2023 - the programme is available here.
Players are invited to enter the 2023 Arie Nijman Memorial - for more information, please click here.
The links to the left are self-explanatory. The Junior link is the door to another section of the site, where you can find the latest information on junior sessions at the Club and our grading system and badges.
We have a Facebook page - like and follow it to receive semi-regular updates, announcements, late changes and information about club nights.
Results for tournaments from the current year can be found on our tournaments page, and results from previous years are available on our results page. Membership fees and categories are available on our membership page.

Our club nights are Wednesday and Thursday nights at our clubrooms at 9/27 Tyne Street, Riccarton, Christchurch (location instructions below). The clubrooms are open from 7pm until approximately 10pm (short time controls) or 11pm (standard time controls) on Wednesdays, noting that the last few games occasionally run longer. Tournament games start at 7:30pm. The club's junior and casual sessions run from 6:15pm till 9pm on Thursdays (except for public holidays). To join the Club, just come to any club night, fill in the form and pay the subscription fee. For more information on becoming a Club member, and to view our current subscription fees, please have a look at our membership page. Please note that Wednesday night tournaments are restricted to financial full, life and junior members only. Players may attend the junior and casual sessions on Thursdays for $2 per night rather than paying a subscription - first night is free.

Location of our clubrooms
The clubrooms are located at Unit 9, 27 Tyne Street. To get there, turn off Mandeville Street at the lights by the Placemakers (this is at the Blenheim Road end), follow the road around to the left and then take the first right turn. Number 27 is an office block on the right-hand side of Tyne Street, just around the first bend (opposite the Punky Brewster which is on the corner). Alternately, this is a link to the area in Google Maps.
